In 2010, NJNA decided to do a community service project that involved military families. This project was divided into two parts.
First, NJNA members journeyed to the Veteran’s Hospital in Lyons to teach needlepoint to some of the patients. We provided plastic mesh canvas, large needles, and yarn that could be stitched into a coaster. Mostly, we found that the patients enjoyed having company and they loved telling us about their lives and adventures.
For the second part of the project, NJNA members stitched a multitude of Christmas ornaments that were shipped to a company in Maine that provided decorated Christmas trees to military families. As you can see from the picture, the ornaments that NJNA provided were as individual as our members!
