2023 SOTM: Crescent Journey by Melita Glavin

Some members decided to stitch the ANG 2023 Stitch of the Month (SOTM), Crescent Journey by Melita Glavin who is also a member of NJNA. Melita spent a day in early January at The Edwardian Needle helping people pick threads or substitute threads for Crescent Journey.

The five original colorways were stitched by ANG Main Line Stitchers chapter members. From left to right is Beach at Night stitched by Kristen Gengler, Neutral stitched by Linda Mitchell, Lavender stitched by Lisa McGinnis, and Original and Beach stitched by Melita Glavin.

Some NJNA members stitched one of the established colorways but others selected their own colorways.

Here is Linda Mosch’s neutral colorway.

Jill Williams replaced the grays and black from the neutral colorway with grayish blues.

Diane Burgess’ variation on the neutral was to substitute red for gray.

By NJNA’s January’s Holiday Luncheon on Jan 6, 2024, Tracy Scerra had finished and framed hers. Tracy decided to stitch a variation of her own bold colors on a black canvas.

Ester Wells had hers done for the January Show & Tell. She changed the colors to periwinkle and fuchsia. She accented the crescents by making the surrounding area darker, making the inner and outer squares more evident.

Jill Williams started with the neutral colorway but changed out the grays and black for grayish blues. The cream/golds are the same threads as in the neutral colorway.

Rosie Lunde went into her stash and came up with a lovely garden colorway. Hers has a center diamond surrounded by a larger diamond, which is not seen in any of the other pieces. This colorway blended the grid into the design, which eliminated it entirely as focal point.

Watch your ANG Needle Pointers magazine for an article that includes several of these pieces.
